I think when he goes to lexington first of all, he leaves behind all of the virginia that he had once known and which, really now for him is dead. And he goes to the valley where the social milue is more Stonewall Jackson than robert e. Lee. But there for the first time in his life, hes got a free hand to do what he wants to do. Its not like being superintendent of west point, where the chief of the corps of engineers was always looking over his shoulder. He is free to be the kind of person he wants to be, and he is extraordinarily successful as a college president. Hes a very Progressive College president. Hes getting rid of all the old curricula. Hes bringing in studies in journalism, in engineering, in law. Hes doing the kinds of things in the valley that Charles Norton elliott is doing at harvard. Hes cutting edge in terms of ped goejy.

Late night bull session last night which a lot of my democratic colleagues in detroit did as well. Im sure a few of you stood up to watch the democratic debates. I have to admit, i did not. I read the recaps this morning and seems like much seasoning and thoughts by the democrats have not yet made them come to their senses. Understand were still advocating for decriminalized just decriminalizing our border illegally and deporting no one and in the meantime giving taxpayerfunded healthcare, too. In fact, one of my colleagues in the congress recently said that we have to provide taxpayerfunded abortion to illegal immigrants. Which, i have to say, sounds like something some of you might come up with at a late night bull session when youre thinking of a parity about the Democratic Party positions might be. I think its one of the best small battle historys ever written on the civil war battle. Biography of john c breckenridge, the general history of the confederacy, a book on the end of the war in florida and other locations. When i was working at the Florida State archives i corresponded with him about the escape of some of the florida cabinet members. He is the editor of a recent series on the civil war in virginia, a separate volume for each year.
