Detroit Lakes' 23rd Annual Street Faire at the Lakes returns this Friday and Saturday, June 2-3 and for the first time since 2013, it will include an Eagles Street Dance, starting at 9 p.m. Friday.
A lack of wind made for a slow start at Sunday's 'Cool Kites' event, but soon a plethora of giant kites were seen floating over Detroit Lake to kick off Sunday's Polar Fest schedule.
Last year's Polar Fest celebration included the community's first-ever 'Polar-try' Poetry Walk. Though it will look a little different, the event is returning for 2023.
Fresh off the success of Detroit Lakes' first-ever 'Polar-try Poetry Walk,' held during Polar Fest 2022, mother-daughter duo Mary Beth and Kendra Gilsdorf are planning a summer poetry walk with poetry submissions to be printed and displayed in the colorful downtown flower pots, next to all the fresh blooms. Submissions for the Flowerpot Poetry Walk are being accepted through Monday, May 30.
Ice sculpture artists Paul and Deneena Hughes brought their son Brett to Detroit Lakes on Thursday, Feb. 10, to complete an 8-foot-tall sculpture that will remain on display next to the MN Sn'Ice Palace throughout this year's Polar Fest celebration, which opens this weekend and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 27.
