Now new information this noon is being revealed by Hawaii Governor josh green. A short time ago he said that lahaina residents who evacuated and escaped the fires will be able to get back to their homes sometime today, adding there will likely be a curfew. But new images show the destruction to which theyll return some major destinations and landmarks are damaged or destroyed. The wildfires of the states deadliest Natural Disaster since a 1960s tsunami that killed 61 people. Team coverage of the fires in maui this noon. Driverless cars to San Francisco. And today, the puc agreed with them. The vote is three one. The item passes on thursday. The California Public Utilities Commission passed two resolutions voting 3 to 1 on each to allow more driverless taxi rides in San Francisco. So crews and waymo will now have the ability to expand driverless rides around the city. This is an incremental approval. It builds on existing approvals and its not the last action. The cpuc or the dmv will be taking in regulating these vehicles. Commissioner genevieve koroma was the only person to vote against expanding driverless car rides, citing opposition from First Responders who have expressed safety concerns. First responders say self driving cars have interfered with their jobs nearly 70 times since 2022. One woman says she ds advanced enough for more use on busy streets. Maui. Massive wildfires have ripped through the island for the past three days, burning down thousands of structures and some say they had almost no warning before the flames hit the fires surrounded their homes before they could even get out, there was nowhere to go. Were being told by officials here that the focus is quickly turning to rebuilding despite the widespread destruction, there is some cautious optimism among residents and business owners. Many of them lost everything in these fires, but theyre now thinking about how to move forward. Line is such a special place for so many visitors that come see us every year. Its the historic significance and just the memories there. And that will mean plenty of help from the feds as well as state and local governments. Theyve already ramped up their response. Opening shelters for thousands who were forced to evacuate and now private aid groups are starting to show up in big numbers as well. The red cross is here. The people are so kind.

He says 2000 rooms are needed and hes encouraging the community to open up their homes if possible to survivors. More than 1000 structures were destroyed across the island, and the governor says it will cost billions of dollars to restore what is lost. It is going to take many years to rebuild lahaina. When you see the full the full extent of the destruction of lahaina, it will shock you. It does appear like a bomb and fire went off. If i may. And all of those buildings virtually are going to have to be rebuilt. It will be a new lahaina. Right now, there is no water and no power on the west side of the island. Search and rescue crews are moving into lahaina to look for survivors and any additional victims. We are going to try our very best to identify those that have perished so that the families can have that closure and can have that understanding.
