Number of homes, fire. A stressful few days for residents impacted by the fire. Most are back home but unfortunately some residents returning to find their homes damaged or destroyed by the seller and to fire. Decision not a mandate but the governor yesterday signed a bill into law citing research that teens arent getting eight to 10 hours of slneeded to thrive. School will be starting later for many california le and High Schoolers in the coming years. Governor newsom signing a new law requiring public middle schools to not start before 8 00 in the morning and high schools not start before 8 30 a. M. That does not include zero periods. The governor said the science shows teenage students who start their day later increase academic performance, attendance and overall health. I think its good to start after that so they can focus well in the schools. I think its a really good change. Officials are at the bridge checking for structural integrity. When it is determined the bridge is Strong Enough to let trains go over rec, they will resume traffic. We are working to get more information and we will bring it to you. Latest developments out of kern county where there were multiple aftershocks following the strongest earthquake in 20 years. Jeff paul has the story from ridgecrest. Reporter it was the strongest earthquake to hit Southern California in two decades. A few minor injuries and isolated damage reported as well as power outages. Officials are working to repair the damage. We do know that there have been significant power outages. Reporter it hit thursday morning and followed with multiple aftershocks. Folks from las vegas to the Pacific Coast felt the quake. Minor damage reported as far away as the los angeles area, more than 150 miles away. Mycole apartment started moving and the roof cracked.
