Over the past five years, I’ve gained administrative experience.”

Byrne announced Thursday (May 6) that he won’t seek a fourth term as city leader. “After months of private thought and discussions with my family, I’ve decided not to seek re-election this fall,” Byrne said in a statement to cleveland.com. “It’s been my privilege to serve this truly special community through both the good and the challenging times. “I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and to thank the members of my administration, city employees, City Council and, of course, the residents of Parma Heights for their confidence and unwavering support throughout my almost 12 years in office.”

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio City Council later this month is expected to pass the 2021 budget, which currently includes hiring first responders and upgrading vehicles. “We’ve provided a draft budget with city council where they’re very comfortable with adding employees,” Parma Heights Mayor Michael P. Byrne said. “We have budgeted for two service department employees, three firefighters and one police officer.” Parma Heights City Council President Marie Gallo said the additional police officer and firefighters are replacements for retired personnel, with Finance/Personnel Director Katie Iaconis noting both the police and fire departments have been operating under-staffed.
