Indian Americans on high alert for news from families about Covid. And then our call came
Never had we imagined moving to the US would include a desperate son watching his PPE-clad mother and sister lighting the pyre of his father back in India.

A month of firsts.
Attending a cremation on a WhatsApp video call was not a use of the chat service I had ever imagined. I was used to examining technology for its policy, legal and economic aspects, not to mourn someone’s death.
A move to the United States had meant several things for us, but never had we thought it would include a desperate son watching his PPE-covered mother and sister lighting the pyre of his father back in India. Zoom fatigue of 2020 had been real, but sitting through a havan, a fire ritual, performed 7,000 miles away to pay respects to the soul of my husband’s father taught me about a new use of the ubiquitous app.

New Delhi: The catastrophic second Covid-19 wave ravaging the country, with people scrambling for hospital beds and medical supplies, has had Congress leader Rahul Gandhi earn plaudits for his âforesight and visionâ from members of the G-23 or group of party leaders, who had last year questioned the âleadership vacuumâ in the party.
ThePrint spoke to multiple leaders of the group, who said that the crisis has âshown Rahul Gandhiâs leadership skillsâ, signalling a slight shift in the internal party dynamics.

Jind: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that the Centre “punished” the Delhi government by “handing power to the Lieutenant Governor” for supporting farmers who are protesting against the three new farm laws.
“They (BJP) have introduced a bill in Parliament to punish Kejriwal. We faced repercussions for supporting farmer’s protest. They are punishing us by passing the bill and handing power into Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s hands instead of the elected government,” Kejriwal said while addressing a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Haryana’s Jind district. Did we fight freedom struggle for this?, Kejriwal asked the crowd.
