Fairfield council lauds Human Resources manager, Parks & Rec
The team award went to the Parks and Recreation Department.
“As I reflect back on the year and consider the employees that have shouldered the biggest responsibilities and successfully risen to the challenge, you are forefront in my mind,” City Manager Stefan Chatwin wrote in a letter to Angela Broaddus, the Human Resource manager.
That letter and the one spelling out the achievements by the Parks & Recreation staff were read Tuesday night to the City Council.
“You have worked tirelessly over the last year to support and provide guidance to the entire city staff. You regularly worked after hours and weekends to provide the highest level of service. With Covid-19 safety protocols and guidelines constantly changing, you became the city’s expert on Covid-19,” the letter states.

Councilwoman Catherine Moy dissented.
The annual cost to the city is estimated at $77,000. The funds would come from the general fund.
Councilman Chuck Timm had this item pulled from the consent agenda for discussion after receiving concerns from other management units, primarily police management, that believed this was not a benefit they deserved.
Human Resource Director Farbod Pirouzmand explained this was an ongoing issue from prior negotiations, and said it was the result of an outside audit that showed this is a standard in other fire departments around the state. He said he spoke to all the labor associations, and that each is free to offer similar position level proposals.
Fairfield council moves forward on possible pay hike for its members
It would be the first pay hike for the council members since 1988.
City Manager Stefan Chatwin also noted that the elected city clerk and city treasurer have not had their salaries increased since 1988, either.
The vote was 5-2 with Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro and Councilwoman Pam Bertani dissenting.
The council was given three options to consider.
• Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month based on population. The option follows state code.
• Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month, with a 5% annual increase for each calendar year dating back to 1989. This increase would equate to $1,300 per month.

City breaks contractual ties with Fairfield Main Street Association
FAIRFIELD The City Council on Tuesday voted to sever its relationship with the Fairfield Main Street Association.
“We’ve got to do better with our downtown . . . I am ready to move in a different direction,” Councilwoman Pam Bertani said.
Connie Ng, owner of CruiseOne Travel, Robert Levine, owner of B&K Tax Service, and attorney Brian Tubis, the current Main Street board president, spoke in favor of approving an agreement with the association.
