One dead in vehicle rollover near Maligne Lake – Jasper s source for news, sports, arts, culture, and more

One person has died after a single vehicle rollover near Maligne Lake. On July 14 at 10:30 p.m., Jasper RCMP received a report of a missing 36-year-old female from Jasper, who had not reported for work. This was considered out of character and there was concern for her wellbeing. While police worked to located the missing female, around 10 a.m. the next day, they received a report of a damaged vehicle a distance off Maligne Lake Road between Medicine Lake and Maligne Lake. Upon arrival, police located a vehicle, which appeared to have been in a single vehicle rollover that ended with it on fire.

Spring runoff closes Icefields Parkway for avalanche control

  EDMONTON Parks Canada is keeping a close watch on the Icefields Parkway and Maligne Lake Road in Jasper National Park to monitor avalanche activity. Due to warming temperatures and spring like conditions, Parks Canada has already reported snow releases onto the roadway. In a release on Tuesday, Parks Canada says it will close the Icefields Parkway as early as noon on Tuesday through to Thursday night. The highway will be closed from Athabasca Falls to the Saskatchewan River Crossing to allow for extensive avalanche control work. According to the release, the day-use area at Athabasca Falls will remain accessible but travel during the early morning or late evening is recommended during the spring melt.
