has got to be a double burden. that s former ntsb chair, deborah hersman on the double-edged sword on whether this crash can be investigated properly, after we know the crash zone has been contamina contaminated. meanwhile, malaysian airlines have been criticized for its handling of flight 370, after that flight disappeared in the indian ocean. this morning, releasing details of the flight s maintenance record. the airline says the jet was checked on july 11th, and had a clean bill of health. we are told it has been in service for 17 years. the fact this is the same airline and the same type of plane, a boeing 777, that vanished without a trace, just over four months ago, isn t lost on anybody. nbc s ron mott has more on that angle. reporter: the pain and anguish for surviving family members of any airplane crash are raw. i need you to help me find my
perth immediately vectored them back into it. they flew the plane. what the report says is that there are certain circumstances with automation where the pilots have not been trained. and that could be a big issue. miles, what is your take away from this? obviously, this happens to have also been a malaysian airlines triple 7200. subsequent to that the particular incident, there was a software upgrade for the triple 7. it would be nice to think that malaysia airlines did in fact do that upgrade. but again, we haven t seen the maintenance record for this aircraft. we don t know for sure. we can hopefully they did especially given that it was so close to home. now, did this particular potential failure, could it have caused the scenario we ve laid out here? in and of itself, i don t think so. it s not enough. it certainly won t have shut down the communication. it doesn t explain a lot of the turning and this long course
there are o several ways, vhf radio, setting an emergency code in the transponder sending out an emergency signal. it seems like we keep going up. somebody sends one up and they shoot it down. this lithium ion battery is out there and now it s shot down. it s frustrating. it s been rather chaotic and in many cases incomplete. as i ve said repeatedly, i would like to hear the air traffic control recordings, tapes, conversations between the a aircraft and the crew. was there a changeoff? some stress in their voices? all of these things we haven t heard and that s for starters. we haven t seen the maintenance record for the aircraft. have investigators talked to some of the people who flew with these crew on prior flights, the previous ten flights? were they doing anything
