Amid massive spurt in novel coronavirus cases across Maharashtra, Nagpur district s Covid-19 testing has tripled to over 10,000 tests per day, according to a minister.
Addressing the media after a review meeting with district officials, Maharashtra minister Nitin Raut said there are 1,769 oxygen beds, 684 ICU and 263 ventilator beds available for COVID-19 patients in the district.

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday directed the various departments to sensitize their staff members to get inoculated under the Covid vaccination drive in Punjab in the war against the pandemic.
Presiding over a meeting of District Task Force, the deputy commissioner said that in Ludhiana, 36,195 healthcare and 24,321 frontline workers have so far registered on the Covid portal out of which 18,754 and 6,099 have been vaccinated by the health teams.
Sharma asked the district education officers (primary and secondary) and district programme officers to start an intensive awareness drive among the teachers and Anganwari workers regarding the importance of the Covid vaccination.
MMR reported 1,364 cases, while the Akola circle in the Vidarbha region, which has witnessed an upsurge in cases of late, recorded 1,154 new infections.With 18 new deaths reported on Monday, the state s fatality count rose to 51,806
NEW DELHI: The coronavirus cases are once again rising in the country, especially in Maharashtra where recently presence of a new strain of the virus was reported.
Though the rate of growth is not as steep as it was during the peak of pandemic, nevertheless the cases have been steadily rising since the last seven days.
From February 7-14, the country reported 77,284 cases. In the following week (February 15-21), more than 1 lakh cases were recorded 31% higher than the preceding week.
The spike was led by Maharashtra, which saw an 81% week-on-week rise in recorded infections.
The state contributed over 41% of the total cases reported in the country in the third week of this month. In the previous two weeks, the cases from Maharashtra constituted nearly a quarter of the total cases in the country.

Madhya Pradesh government on Monday issued an order to make thermal screening mandatory for people coming from Maharashtra, owing to the surge in novel coronavirus cases in that state.
In accordance with the order, the state government asked collectors of Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad, Betul, Siwni, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Barwani, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Alirajpur and districts bordering Maharashtra to convene a meeting of district crisis management committees over Covid-19.
