Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray staked claimed to form the government in Maharashtra after meeting the Governor on Tuesday night. Leaders of the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress Uddhav Thackeray as their nominee for the chief minister s post at a meeting in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has called a special session of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday where floor test will be conducted after pro-tem speaker administers oath to the 288 newly-elected members, an official said on Tuesday. The oath will be administered by newly-appointed pro tem speaker Kalidas Kolambkar at the session, which will begin at 8 am.
Earlier NCP president Sharad Pawar said that the new government in Maharashtra will be formed under the leadership of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
The BJP also accused its one-time ally Shiv Sena of committing the ‘sin’ of abandoning its founder Bal Thackeray’s thoughts of aligning with the BJP by joining hands with the Congress and the NCP.
A day after meeting the NCP, the Congress Working Committee on Thursday reviewed the political logjam in Maharashtra. Congress sources said a final decision on Maharashtra is expected by tomorrow. Another meeting between Congress and NCP is to happen Thursday night and a final meeting with Shiv Sena will happen Friday in Mumbai. The decision on government formation in Maharashtra will be announced in Mumbai on Friday, the sources said to news agency PTI.
