Next on american artifacts we visit a living history camp to learn about the experiences of the armys 517th parachute Regimental Combat Team. U. S. Soldiers who fought in the Maritime Alps of france 75 years ago during the autumn of 1944. Good morning. I am part of a Group Representing f company of the 517th parachute regiment part of the unit called the 517th prct short for parachute Regimental Combat Team. It is a largely forgotten, over shadowed unit of the war because it was a smaller unit, numbered about 2500 men throughout the war. It was comprised of three smaller units, the 517th parachute frant regiment, the 596th airborne engineer company and the 460th parachute Field Artillery battalion so those three units to

Next on american artifacts we visit a living history camp to leadership about the parachute regimental keep bat team, who fought in the mar tile a im part of a troop representing fcompany, part of a unit of the 517th prct, which was short for parachute Regimental Combat Team. It is a largely forgotten overshadowed unit of the war. It was a smaller unit, about 2500 men. It was comprised of three smaller units. The three units together made the combat team, which the higher army company throughout the war would attach them to larger divisions, where they were needed, as needed throughout the war. We are representing them during the Maritime Alps campaign. That was near the italian border in which they were tasked with protecting the right flank of the main advance of the u. S. 7th army up the rhone river valley. That was overshadowed by the famous normandy operations. Originally both operations were designed to take place simultaneously.

Training centers all over the country and expand what we had. We had to build Training Centers all of the country and these are the types of buildings that are represented. Now, if you notice this is a friend of mine. His name is richard. This is him in september of 1942, when he started his training in toccoa, georgia. Im wearing boots, coveralls, and overseas cap just the way they did to train. One reason they issued coveralls to train with was world war ii was truly a global war. We were fighting in the pacific in the islands, we were in africa, we were also in europe. So you were not quite sure where you are going to go. Therefore you were issued coveralls and when you were heading into combat zones, you would switch into the uniform that fit for that. So, fortunately this weekend, you see, just like the barracks would look like in world war ii when these guys were training.
