Kathmandu [Nepal] May 13 (ANI): Despite losing a vote of confidence in parliament, KP Sharma Oli has been re-appointed as Prime Minister by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Thursday late evening as opposition parties failed to garner majority and claim for the prime ministership.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari had earlier given a three-day deadline that expired at 9 PM on Thursday evening to stake claim to form a new government to opposition parties.
Since opposition parties were unable to garner requisite majority seats in parliament, President Bhandari on late Thursday announced no one came to claim the stake and re-appointed Oli as Prime Minister.

The Nepali Congress (NC) under the leadership of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday had announced its intention to stake a claim for the prime minister s post. Though Deuba had received support from Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda , a meeting of current and former NC office bearers at the party president s residence on Thursday concluded that the sharp division within the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) whether to support the NC-led government had made the formation of an alternative government impossible.

Provincial lawmakers and local government officials in the Bagmati province who are close to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML are highly likely to vote against the party’s official candidate Ram Bahadur Thapa in the National Assembly by-election to be held on May 20.
The rival group has decided to partner with the opposition parties including the Nepali Congress, the CPN-Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal. The alliance has also decided to field planning expert Khim Lal Devkota against Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.
Devkota himself is considered close to the UML’s Madhav disgruntled faction. However, as the party has not officially split, he will contest the poll as the CPN-Maoist Centre candidate.
