Madera County adds more people to COVID vaccine eligibility list

Starting this week, those who fall into one of the following populations or works in one of these industries can sign up to receive their vaccine:
People who live, work or volunteer in any congregate residential setting such as an incarceration/detention facility, homeless shelter, behavioral health facility, etc.
Public transport workers
Janitors
Those with severely high-risk medical conditions
Local health officials say they ve expanded the eligibility list to help those who are among the most at-risk have access to their shots.

Vaccine effectiveness questioned with delayed second doses in Madera County

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Some people in Madera County are upset about the county s system of scheduling second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Second doses of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are tickets to the most protection we can get from the virus.
They act as boosters and bring the vaccines effectiveness up above 90%.
For Moderna, the wait is supposed to be 28 days after the first dose.
For Pfizer, it s 21 days.
But Action News got complaints from people in Madera County that the county wouldn t let them schedule second doses of Pfizer any sooner than 28 days after the first dose.
Valley counties ramp up vaccine rollout with new state vaccine sites, pharmacy partnerships

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) More vaccines are making their way into the arms of the most vulnerable.
In the South Valley, Tulare County Public Health Department officials say along with an increase in vaccine allocations, they ll also be expanding vaccination sites. We ve been identified to have four Optumserve testing sites, some will also be vaccination sites, says Carrie Monteiro with the department.
Monteiro says the sites will be Dinuba, Woodlake, Earlimart, and Porterville, ultimately helping administer 6,000 doses a week.
They re also be receiving additional vaccines from an ongoing pharmacy program with the federal government.
COVID-19 vaccine appointments canceled in Madera County due to shortage in doses
Of the hundreds of appointments canceled, most were seniors over 75 years old.

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) First-time vaccine appointments have suddenly come to a halt at the Madera County Social Services Building.
Due to a shortage in supply, health officials say 824 people in Madera County are finding out their turn at receiving the COVID-19 vaccine has been postponed indefinitely. It s really difficult for us to predict at the local level what that supply chain is going to look like in the coming weeks and months, says Madera County Public Health Director Sara Bosse.

The state s online platform, MyTurn, which notifies you when it s your turn to get vaccinated and schedules vaccination appointments, is now available in Fresno County. Appointments will become available on MyTurn for the following week at the Fresno Fairgrounds.
