The Porterville Fairgrounds is serving as a temporary mass vaccine site and resource center for farmworkers in the southern San Joaquin Valley.
Up to 3,000 doses of vaccines will be administered across the three-day event. Attendees will also receive food boxes and information about emergency preparedness.
In total, more than 30 community-based organizations are participating in the event to bring resources for people in some of the county s most vulnerable communities.
Listos California, a statewide campaign to boost emergency preparedness among California s vulnerable communities, hosted the event. Listos in Spanish means Ready, and a big part of the campaign is providing culturally and linguistically competent support, according to organizers.
While current Tulare County COVID-19 metrics are still near record lows since the pandemic started in March 2020, there s evidence those metrics show signs of plateauing and even slightly increasing.
As of Friday, Tulare County s COVID-19 daily case rate is 3.3 per 100,000 population, and the positivity rate is 1.9%. The county scored 2.2% in the state s Healthy Place Index.
Tulare County s case rate has hovered between 3.1 and 3.3 cases per 100,000 for the past several weeks. To move from the orang tier to the even less restrictive yellow tier, the county s COVID-19 case rate must drop below 2. The county s Healthy Place Index also increased from 1.9 to 2.2%, pushing that metric from the yellow tier to the orange.
