Addressing Community Members for the First Time Since two major incidents. First, a fire that appears to have been set saturday inside target. Completely lawlessness in the city. And everyone knows it. And theyre taking advantage of it. On monday, multiple neighbors who chose not to show their face out of fear voiced their safety concerns. After the 7eleven and sideshow situation, two Community Members like Paula Connelly took it a step further, begging for help from the governor. State of emergency. Last july, we have no help from the outside, no sheriffs, no chp. So weve had even this past Holiday Season between november 20th and the end of the year. Weve seen a significant decline in crime. And so we know this has nothing to do with that decision. Its really a larger business decision that macys has made. Macys says the closures are part of a shift in Business Strategy from large stores and malls to more boutique shops. Macys is the latest in the list of iconic union square in Downtown Retail stores to close, including nordstrom and the westfield mall. The mayor says the closure is disappointing, but shes hopeful for change. There are definitely possibilities here. I believe that we should work toward a solution that allows macys to keep this iconic store open. San franciscos landscape. Macys is leaving the city nearly 80 years after opening the doors to its iconic building. And tonight, some questions about whats next for union square. Macys announced today that it will close 150 locations over the next two years. That includes the citys union square location. Macys says a change in the retail landscape has forced it to change its strategy. So instead, the company is going to open 15 new bloomingdales and 30 new bluemercury stores.
