Addressing Community Members for the First Time Since two major incidents. First, a fire that appears to have been set saturday inside target. Second, a 7eleven that was ransacked during a sunday sideshow that left one person shot. And this pickup truck on fire. Our target was set on fire. The sideshow that you reported on, its lawlessness. Completely lawlessness in the city. And everyone knows it. And theyre taking advantage of it. On monday, multiple neighbors who chose not to show their face out of fear voiced their safety concerns. After the 7eleven and sideshow situation, two Community Members like Paula Connelly took it a step further, begging for help from the governor. State of emergency. Last july, we have no help from the outside, no sheriffs, no chp. Oakland just got an influx of officers from the governor, and we would like the governor to send officers here, interim Vallejo Police chief jason todd says the department is severely understaffed at just 33 patrol officers, but they have made improvements. They will bring a proposal to the council next month, which could allow for Solano County deputies to help with patrols. Thats only part of it, too. We were able to actually bring ■two vallejo officers back that had recently resigned and came back and were were going to on board for more. So there thats really exciting for us. As for the Police Response to sundays sideshow, one that neighbors were angered by, were not going to send officers into a situation that they dont have enough resources and so we did not have enough resources to respond quickly to that event. What i would say to anybody watching or the community is to call it in and to really be a good witness. The shooting victim during that sideshow suffered nonlife threatening injuries, but no arrests have been made in that case, and no arrests have been made in that target. Arson case in vallejo. J. R. The Police Commission revealed the four people who will be appearing at a public forum this thursday at city hall. Its a Diverse Group with only one local candidate, Abdul Pridgen is the former San Leandro Police chief. He left the Department Last week. Floyd mitchell was the chief of lubbock, texas, that police department. Lisa davis is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in cincinnati. Luis molina has an extensive resume and is currently the assistant deputy mayor for Public Safety in new york city. Abc seven news insider phil matier explains how the process will go from here. At this point, its up to the public and the commission as were going to be having a public airing of these candidates, and then the commission will narrow it down to three to send to the mayor. She will then have to make a decision of either to take one or to reject all three, as she did in the past. And people are allowed to submit questions for the forum by going online. Well, it is now one of 150 Stores Nationwide tied to targeted for closure as the Company Shifts from large malls to boutique shops. Weve heard plenty about retail theft and slumping foot traffic. Thats led to an exodus in the union square area, mayor london breed says. This is strictly business. However, weve had even this past Holiday Season between november 20th and the end of the year, weve seen a significant decline in crime. And so we know this has nothing to do with that decision. Its really a larger business decision that macys has made. So whats next . Macys will look for someone to buy the building before closing for good. Abc seven news insider phil matier explored the possibilities. It signals that its going to go empty. That impacts all of the real estate in the area, because people dont go to where theres empty buildings. You get into. You can call it a doom loop or whatever, but were seeing it. The continuous. As more and more stores leave. Now there is talk about maybe somebody coming in and say, can they get somebody to come in and maybe put a store on the ground floor, because people dont necessarily want a store where they can buy a coffee maker, a suit and cosmetics and 111 store, put some retail there and then put a hotel or something on top of it. But that takes big money and that takes a big commitment. The closure will affect about 400 employees as this store is expected to remain open until 2025. Now, of course, this is just the late in the wave of notable store closures. And while many Retail Companies have adjusted to the online era, others have seen their demise accelerated by the pandemic. The San Francisco board of supervisors just approved a 9 million settlement today for a local cyclist. He was seriously hurt when he hit a bump in the street left after a road repair. The iteams dan noyes reports. The city also faces a lawsuit from several others injured by that very same bump. Its an ordeal that could have been avoided. The outside lands festival in Golden Gate Park had just wrapped up on a sunday night in august 2022, when a project manager for robotaxi firm cruz mason masuda headed home on a bike. He got to this section of clay designate a slow street for cyclists and pedestrians, but hit this unmarked bump left by a road crew and crashed his head, hitting the pavement. His lawsuit says. Masuda suffered life altering permanent injuries. The resolution is adopted and today the San Francisco board of supervisors approved a 9 million settlement. This really should not have happened. And im not just talking about the workers failing to mark the street or put up pylons where the hazard was. The city had several warnings. The people on scooters and bikes were getting hurt. Here but failed to take action for days. I remember looking out the window and seeing ambulances in the middle of the night. Madame cho saw the unmarked bump left by a city crew repairing a leaking water pipe, and he saw people crashing on scooters and bikes at all hours of the day. Several neighbors dialed 311 to get the bump fixed, or at least marked with warning signs. You know, they had called 311 multiple times that week to alert the city of the bump, and the fact that it was unmarked, um, and nothing was occurring. Reporter. For more people injured in crashes at that bump have also filed a lawsuit, and it gives us a timeline. August first, 2022 the Water Department repaired a leak under the pavement and left that long temporary patch. August 3rd, at least for neighbors. Call 311 to report people on scooters and bikes are crashing there. That same day, woman on a scooter suffered significant injuries, including lacerations and injury to her knee and shoulder august 5th man on a bike hits the bump, winds up with a broken elbow. Requires surgery. August 6th another broken elbow for a cyclist. That same day, ralph bauer suffered a broken collarbone and ribs, requiring surgery while wrapping up a 100 mile ride. He had just qualified for the world iron man championship in hawaii that year. All of a sudden, the next thing i knew, i woke up in the woke up in the middle of the street. It took until august 11th for a city crew to permanently repave the area. A lapse that caused permanent damage in several peoples lives. Its unlike me that im going to get back to the point that i was before the accident, but if i can just get back to the point where i can enjoy the things recreation that i used to enjoy, like swimming and biking and running, um, ill uh and playing with my granddaughter, ill consider that a success. Bauer and those other three victims are also suing San FranciscoCity Attorney david chus office emailed me a statement. We have been engaged in negotiations to reach a fair resolution to these matters, given ongoing negotiations. We have no comment on the other lawsuits for the iteam in San Francisco. According to the university. A group of 200 protesters surrounded zellerbach hall, where a Student Group was going to hear from a notable proisrael advocate. A new, fun and imaginative miniature golf course is opening in downtown san jose. I mean, i look at this space and im just im bursting with pride. Steve fox created and founded urban putt. Hes opened similar mini golf venues after leaving a 35 year career as an editor and writer. It had been inspired by a series of parties that i used to have at my house. They were bring your own hole miniature golf parties. Urban putt san jose is a combination of mini golf, a full bar and a restaurant. It becomes a complete experience and thats really, i think, what people are craving here. The 18 hole course is an ode to south bay landmarks from the San Jose Sharks to the winchester mystery house. It celebrates the present, past and future. This is a town built on innovation. Its a its a place that really expects creativity and rewards it. Well be going up thursday morning until sunday morning for the sierra. 5 to 10ft of snow above 5000ft, 1 to 4ft above 3000ft. With those gusts up to 65 miles an hour. Its going to be extremely dangerous to impossible to travel up there. This could be the most significant snow of the season so far. So if you do want to travel up there with those blizzard conditions, widespread blowing snow, windy extended road closures and whiteout conditions is what you can expect. Tomorrow is your best day to get up there. After that, its going to be extremely dangerous travel. I would not advise it, especially during that thursday to saturday time period. All is quiet uh up in zephyr cove right now, but tomorrow is your day up in tahoe. 48. Mostly sunny and then here is when things really start to deteriorate from thursday through saturday.
