LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Madison Hirsch hit her fifth home run of the season but Kansas softball (22-24, 2-14 Big 12) drops the opening game of a three-game series to Iowa State (29-19, 4-12 Big 12), 9-3, on Friday night at Arrocha Ballpark.
Five Jayhawks contributed to KU’s six hits against the Cyclones with Shelby Gayre leading Kansas with two. Ashlyn Anderson, Morgyn Wynne, Hirsch and Peyton Renzi tallied one each.
Despite the Jayhawks dropping the game, Kansas was the first team to get on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, KU loaded the bases with two outs. Cheyenne Hornbuckle stepped to the plate and drew a walk to bring Anderson home and give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead.
WACO, Texas – Morgyn Wynne hit two home runs and Lyric Moore recorded one as the Kansas softball team dropped two games to Baylor on Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium. The first game was a conclusion of action that began on Saturday afternoon that was postponed due to weather. Kansas had a late rally going in the top of the seventh but ultimately fell, 6-5 to the Lady Bears. The Jayhawks attempted to bounce back in the series finale but fell 6-1 in seven innings.
With the two losses, Kansas falls to 22-23 on the season and 2-13 in the Big 12. Baylor improves to 27-15 overall and 8-6 in the Big 12.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas softball team (22-20, 2-10 Big 12) will wrap-up Big 12 road action this weekend in Waco, Texas at Baylor (24-15, 5-6 Big 12). The three-game series is slated to begin on Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. and continue with a single game on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. before concluding on Sunday, May 2 at noon.
The weekend’s games will be available to watch on the Big 12 NOW on ESPN+. John Morris will be on the call doing play-by-play all weekend. He will be joined by Kelly Levesque on Friday and Saturday. Jordan Strickland will join John on Sunday.
AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball tallied a run in each game but weren’t able to stop the Longhorn’s bats as KU dropped two games to No. 9 Texas on Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The Jayhawks battled in the first game to an 8-1 loss, before dropping the second game, 10-1.
With the two losses, Kansas falls to 22-19 overall and 2-9 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 34-6 and 8-3 in Big 12 play.
Game One – Lost 8-1
The Jayhawks jumped ahead early after Brittany Jackson hit a single through the right side. Macy Omli advanced her to second with a sac bunt, and Morgyn Wynne took first base after being hit by a pitch with only one out. Shelby Gayre battled through six pitches before sending the seventh into left field for a RBI single scoring Jackson.
AUSTIN, Texas – Kansas softball scored three runs in the second and tied the game with five runs in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Jayhawks fell to No. 9 Texas in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, 10-8.
Following the loss, Kansas falls to 22-20 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12. Texas improves to 35-6 and 9-3 in Big 12 play.
Macy Omli led the Jayhawks going 2-for-4 from the plate and brought in a career-high four RBIs.
Texas got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a single run crossing home but KU struck back quick.
