A look ahead: UGA and Athens events this week

Wednesday, June 16  What: Associate curator of education at the Georgia Museum of Art Sage Kincaid discusses the painting “Saint Catherine of Alexandria Appearing to the Family of Saint Bonaventure” by Francisco de Herrera, the Elder. The event is a part of the museum’s Artful Conversation series, which works to spark conversations about individual art pieces. The event is free, but registration is required. When: 1 p.m. 

Cassie Chantel to start hip-hop residency at Live Wire Athens

Just 70 miles northeast of one of the major hip-hop capitals of the world lies the Classic City, a town known for its own diverse music scene. Live Wire Athens, a hotspot among local hip-hop enthusiasts, will host a series of performances next month as ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment holds its hip-hop residency.  Cassie Chantel and other artists of Tribe House Records will perform at the first night of “Hip-Hop Pit Stop,” a weekly music showcase each Wednesday in June. The month-long event will be hosted by Minneapolis native Montu Miller, CEO of ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment.  “ALE looks forward to expanding its relationship with Live Wire Athens to make June 2021 something special as Athens music venues open their doors back up,” Miller said in a news release. 

Live Wire Athens & ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment host hip-hop residency

As downtown music venues begin reopening for spring and summer, one has chosen to make a significant, and welcome, commitment to the thriving local hip-hop scene. Starting June 2, Live Wire Athens and ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment will present Hip-Hop Pit Stop, a month-long residency scheduled every Wednesday night from 8 to 11 p.m.. Each program will include an open mic segment, guest DJ sets and vendor tables, and will conclude with a 90-minute performance featuring artists from independent hip-hop record labels. This event will allow the Athens music community to network, dance, and celebrate independent hip-hop artists of many different styles, said Montu Miller, CEO of ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment and ambassador of Athens hip-hop.
