The annual Wayne City Bean Days celebration gets underway this weekend and runs through next Saturday, September 24th. Activities are set to take place this Thursday and Friday nights starting at 6 p.m. with a full day of activities this Saturday the 24th. Among Saturday's activities are the Tractor Show starting at 7 a.m. on the Ag Building parking lot, a Car Cruise on the West School Parking Lot from 9 a.m. til noon, and the parade through Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Serving of free ham and beans starts at 11 a.m. at the Ag Building. The Marion County Health Department reported a COVID-related death in their weekly report on the virus this past week, a long-term care female resident in her 60s who had not been vaccinated. The annual Fairfield Fall Fun Fest wraps up today with the full day of activities. Among the activities scheduled today is the Lemond Chevrolet Chrysler Classic Car Show, the WADI/Headstart Kiddie Parade, a Kiddie Tractor Pull, Fairfield's Got Talent, Chuck A Duck starting at 5:30 this evening, and a performance by the Dylan Wolfe Band from 6:30 to 10 p.m. tonight on the main stage. The annual Elm River Chowder is set to take place this Saturday, September 3rd. The event will be held four miles east of the Rinard crossroads, with the cost of the meal by donation only. The soup is scheduled to be dipped around 12:30, and volunteers are welcome for vegetable preparation. There will also be live music and door prizes. Also featured will be a food stand serving pulled pork sandwiches/nachos, pork burgers, hot dogs, pie by the slice or whole pies and cold drinks. Soup will also be available by the bowl at the food stand. Reports Saturday indicated Wayne County has had 58 new cases of the coronavirus in the past week and two hospitalizations.
