The 14th annual Wayne County Antique Tractor Drive will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 5. All tractors that are model year 1992 or earlier (30 years of age or older) are welcome to participate. The route will begin and end at Vaughan Equipment Incorporated, located at 908 South First Street (Route 45) in Fairfield. Planned tours during the drive include Junkyard Art by Tam-I-Am and Scarbrough Trucking. Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a planned departure time of 9:00 a.m. Pictures will be taken at the time of check-in (before departure). The driver meeting will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. Recognition will be given for the most original unrestored tractor, oldest tractor, youngest driver, and the driver who traveled the furthest to be at the event. The oldest driver will be recognized with the Earl Smith Memorial Award. Registration is $20 per tractor if registered by August 15. After August 15, registration is $30. The annual Elm River Chowder is set to take place this Saturday, September 3rd. The event will be held four miles east of the Rinard crossroads, with the cost of the meal by donation only. The soup is scheduled to be dipped around 12:30, and volunteers are welcome for vegetable preparation. There will also be live music and door prizes. Also featured will be a food stand serving pulled pork sandwiches/nachos, pork burgers, hot dogs, pie by the slice or whole pies and cold drinks. Claren Lee Hosselton, age 78, of Clay City, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 9th, 2021, at his farm in Clay City, IL. Claren was the son of (Leon) Cletis Hosselton and Wilma Fern (Pierce) Hosselton born on January 9th, 1943, in Clay City, IL. He attended grade school at the Wells School on the Clay/Wayne County Line 2 miles east of Big Four Road. He graduated from Clay City High School where he held the hurdles record for numerous years. Claren attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science. He continued his education earning his master's degree from the University of Illinois, with a specialty certificate in agriculture and education. Claren became the agriculture teacher at Kinmundy High School in, Kinmundy, IL, (South Central High School) in 1967, later becoming the Superintendant. In 1977, Claren returned home to work on the family farm with his father and brother, Larry, and where he worked until the da
