Firefighters said they found heavy smoke coming from the home when they arrived. Everyone inside the house was able to safely escape. Crews were on the scene for several hours. The cause of this fire is still under inveveigation. One person died in an overnight fire in des moines. Police were originally called out to a home on the citys Northwest Side for a report of a disturbance. Police say a man inside the home was threatening officers s en they arrived at the home. When police couldnt get the man to come outside, officers saw a fire erupt in the home. After breaking into the home to rescue the man, police say that man resisted the officers attempt to save him. Last week, the Iowa City School board voted to report all threats to police and parents. That was after West High School didnt report a a gun to school on social media. Has reported three incidents since last wednesday. The Iowa City Community School District sent out an email to families yesterday. It said the district plans to evaluate any alleged threat for potential danger and then decide the correct response.
