so far. i think so, too. i did an interview over off of channel 3 drive, and the protest , this is where they started. and when i drove up, they were very period. they were walking around and they were getting ready to walk over to the bridge, and they were very peaceful. so that made you feel good. i didn t feel like i was in harm s way. i said earlier that memphis has a rich history when it comes to the civil rights movement. it would be incredible for memphis to have a rich history when it comes to police reform. yes. which is a continuum, on the continuum for the civil rights movement. right, and i think today i heard attorney crump say that this should be the blueprint. i think he said that to you this morning about memphis being the blueprint for the country, of what happened as far as the officers being fired and being charged with in 20 days of what happened. so i think this is it. memphis will be the blueprint for the coununtry. thank you, vicki terry. i
john berman here in for anderson. take a look. there they are. both back when they wore memphis police department uniforms, and now in their booking photos. justin smith, emmett martin iii, desmond mills jr., demetrius haley all five now ex-cops charged today with killing tyre nichols, who died three days after a traffic stop and violent arrest on the 7th of this month. all five facing identical counts, official oppression, unauthorized exercise of official power, aggravated kidnapping while possessing a weapon, aggravated kidnapping causing bodily injury, aggravated assault, and second-degree murder. today in addition to the charges, we learn more about what kind of officers they were, along with details from the timeline of tyre nichols deadly encounter with them, which tennessee s top state law enforcement official says are appalling to him. sadly, there will be more tomorrow when video described in excruciating terms by those who have seen it is made public. cnn s sara s

charged with murder. that s right, don. tomorrow it will be three weeks to the day since police pulled over tyre nichols in a traffic stop that we see on video escalate out of all proportion. we then see nichols run off, only to be stopped at a second location and be given a fatal beating. before we show you just a portion of it, i just want to take a moment and reaffirm that tyre nichols, about his personhood, to show you a little about who this man was. our sara sidner has that story for us. reporter: in memphis, candles burned for a life snuffed out, the life of 29- year-old tyre nichols being remembered, where friends say he felt the most free a skate park. 12 years ago, nichols, seen here doing what he loved. 12 years later, he ended up dead, officials say beaten by five men sworn to protect and serve. nichols family wants people to know more about tyre nichols than how he died.
tomorrow when video described in excruciating terms by those who have seen it is made public. cnn s sara sidner is in memphis tonight with all the latest on that, but also, a closer look at who tyre nichols was and the life he lived. sara, first, what s the reaction in the city now that charges have been filed against the officers? i can sum that up in two words. prayerful and peaceful. we re at a skate park tonight. this is a place skate park anywhere that tyre nichols loved. it s where he felt the most free. but we have now heard that one of the officers is free, free on bond, paying a $250,000 bond. there are five total officers, all charged with seven major crimes. in memphis, candles burn for a life snuffed out, the life of 29-year-old tyre nichols being
