PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has advised the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that the Parliament sitting will not be convened during the Emergency Proclamation, says Minister in the Prime Minister s Department Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
The de facto law minister said the statement made by the Palace last week was to explain that there will be no Parliament sitting, and any decision to convene a sitting must be made by the Cabinet. Now, the Cabinet advised the King that there is no Parliament sitting. That is the situation now, he said during a press conference on Wednesday (March 3) at Putrajaya.
Takiyuddin said the decision not to convene the Parliament sitting was also made based on science and data, as well as the Federal Constitution.
PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet must advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to quickly convene the next Parliament session, says the Pakatan Harapan secretariat council. There are no more excuses for Parliament not to convene. Therefore, the Cabinet must uphold the King s advice, it said in a press release on Wednesday (March 3). Among the excuses given were that laws do need to be passed in Parliament during the Emergency Ordinance and many MPs are at high risk of being infected with Covid-19 if Parliament were to sit, added the council.
It said that all the excuses were disrespectful towards the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong s decree on Feb 24, stating that the Parliament can convene during the Emergency ordinance.

MP SPEAKS | I welcome the reaction by the Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to have all those responsible for the lock-up rape to be charged in court and there will be no compromise on it.
The first step in handling a rape case of this magnitude is a resolute admission and acknowledgement that a rape did indeed happen within the walls of the police lock-up and that the perpetrators be charged in court, as advocated by DAP Senator Alan Ling who had accompanied the minor and her father to lodge a police report on the incident.
The government has neither been able to effectively handle the Covid-19 pandemic nor the economy. Investors are also not coming in and this has led to many problems, the PKR president told reporters after handing over face masks to policemen at the district police station here Monday (Jan 11).
Anwar said tactics to buy over politicians by offering them positions should also stop. We need to have the political will to save the country and not the positions of one or two people. We need to plan the direction the country needs to take, he said.
On Saturday (Jan 9), Ahmad Jazlan said he no longer supported Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin s leadership.
