to you guys down there. just an unbelievable situation. you describe the lack of power paired with the fuel shortage as a double whammy. how is this combination making recovery difficult for people in your parish? and how are the frustration levels right now? it s got to be reaching their boiling point. yeah. well, our electrical department entergy is working hard at restoring it. i know a lot of people are out of town and want to come back. unfortunately it was raining today. and of course when you just can t get out to the streets and it s pouring down rain, that s just going to delay things as you would expect. very, very difficult. i just got back from traveling to lafitte, which is outside of our levee protection system. this is a community that had very, very high water. some of the hardest things i ve had to deal with is looking people in the face who just have lost everything. there s a quiet desperation about them. it s almost like there is no
will no longer be a factor and we can start the recovery process. problem with upper jefferson parish inside the levee protection system, we don t have power and also lost water pressure. those two items are critical toward normal everyday living and we just don t have it. people who don t understand how they interact with electricity forget that drainage, water systems, sewage and fuel pumps use electricity. you can t pump fuel, you have problems, some filling up, some used fuel to get out, trucks can t get in and you can t pump it. exactly. well said. it s just power, power is everything. it s so deeply embedded and intertwined in our daily lives we take it for granted until it s not there. let s talk about what you
lower jefferson, outside the levee protection district, we have [interpreter] we have grand aisle, and yes they were especially affected by water, upwards of 15 feet. in the island of grand aisle is uninhabitable right, now it has 3 to 4 feet of sand on the entire island, while the critical infrastructure has literally washed away. we just were able to get on the island yesterday. and we had the first responders, there that were to securing the island. and we re making some progress there. leafy, the water is beginning to recede, and we re hoping in two days it will no longer be a factor. and then we can start the recovery process. the problem with jefferson parish upper, inside the levee protection system, is simply that we don t have any power.
finding mission. we were a fly on the wall getting eyes on the hardest hit areas like new orleans. they identified what equipment is needed like generators and pumps and how to get rid of storm surge near lake pontchartrain outside of the federal levee protection system.
