of incredibly warm water all the way to the shores of louisiana, and along the way, that s just going to feed energy into the storm and they re expecting rapid intensification of the storm. right now, it has 80 miles per hour. well, they expect it to come onto the shores of louisiana with winds of 1a0mph, making it a category a hurricane. ida will arrive 16 years to the day since hurricane katrina hit, when 80% of new orleans was flooded and almost 2,000 people lost their lives. hurricane ida is not expected to cause such devastation. though the winds will be stronger, the wall of water is not expected to be as high as that that submerged the city in 2005. but the authorities in new orleans are not taking any chances. at this time, i will be and i am calling for mandatory evacuation of all areas outside of our levee protection system. all areas outside of our
ida is going to throw at us later this weekend. around new orleans, mandatory evacuations for those living outside the new levee protection system, as the big easy prepares for up to 11 feet of storm surge and long-lasting power outages. the governor of louisiana saying that this could potentially be the strongest hurricane to hit this state since the 1850s. jon? jon: casey stegall in baton rouge, louisiana. thank you. let s check in now with fox weather meteorologist adam klotz tracking ida s path live from the fox weather center. adam? adam: hey, jon, i want to focus on the timeline of this storm as we speak. still sitting at a category 2 storm, 105 miles-an-hour winds, gusting up to 125 miles-an-hour. it is moving to the northwest at 16 miles-an-hour, but we re expecting a big slowdown right as it reaches landfall. so i do think it jumps up to a cat 3 overnight tonight before

expressed significant confidence in the levee protection system. i really have no reason to doubt that. in addition to that, we are absolutely prepared. the waterboard which is our drainage pumping system is working at optimal capacity. we are always focused on infra structure and infrastructure improvements in the city of new orleans. like many of my brother and sister mayors across the united states of america. the need for adequate investment is there, and it s not just the city of new orleans and isolation. what we have been seeing are cities again across the country. the rainfall is coming harder, this is something that we ll have to address moving forward i am prepared to do so
