A standoff at an oregon wildlife refuge is finally over. It lasted nearly six weeks. The last four people occupying the site walked out and surrendered to fbi. They were the last members of the group that took over the complex on january 2 demanding that federal lands be turned over to local control. Last month you might recall the groups leaders were arrested in an incident that saw one of the occupiers shot and killed. One by one, low income immigrant families living in one of fairfax countys last affordable neighborhoods are losing their homes. The managers of the Mobile Home Park are demanding Social Security numbers from every resident. If they cannot produce them, theyre being evicted. Bruce leshan has been talking to the families. Needless confrontation. At least 1,000 Police Officers in ferguson have gone through special training on how to deal peacefully with protesters and the mayor of st. Reporter virginia education secretary anne holton is here at Highland Valley Elementary School celebrating a success. The school has pulled out of warning status for accreditation. Were proud of those results and its been through a lot of hard work in the last several years. Reporter haidl valley elementary has more children in poverty than any other Fairfax County school. For more than 84 of the students here, their first language is spanish. Its so exciting to see a school dealing with the challenges, very high free and reduced lunch and english language learners and yet doing phenomenal work.
