LANCASTER, Pa. Lancaster City’s Bureau of Fire is working to hire more minority firefighters.
The effort is part of Lancaster City’s equity initiative across all city departments under Mayor Danene Sorace.
Currently 15 of the bureau’s 68-member workforce, or 22 percent, identify as minority. That percentage more than doubled since 2007, when it was 10 percent of an 88-member workforce.
Minorities form 60 percent of Lancaster City’s population, according to the latest Census Bureau data.
