Update (Jan.24): Two businesses are taking collections for the children who lost their mothers in a house fire on Saturday night in Lebanon City.  Lebanon Farmers Market says any gift card is acceptable where the children can receive clothing. The market says gift cards can be taken to Keener Poultry or dropped off at Tom B. Morrissey TV & Appliance.  Quentin Tavern Restaurant is also accepting gift cards to help the children get clothing, food and toys. The restaurant says to drop off gift cards to the bartender inside while the tavern still open.

The effort is part of Lancaster City’s equity initiative across all city departments under Mayor Danene Sorace. Currently 15 of the bureau’s 68-member workforce, or 22 percent, identify as minority. That percentage more than doubled since 2007, when it was 10 percent of an 88-member workforce. Minorities form 60 percent of Lancaster City’s population, according to the latest Census Bureau data.
