Council was not able to vote on hiring clerk
At the meeting Thursday, Fankhauser told council members he dropped off the legislation, which he wrote, at the mayor s office Wednesday afternoon. He followed up with Kelli Patterson, the city s administrative assistant, Thursday morning, asking her to be sure the mayor knew the legislation would have to be signed before the new clerk could be hired.
Rebecca Van Hesteren, whom council members have selected to fill the position, already has started work in the clerk s office.
The mayor did sign another piece of legislation that was passed Tuesday, Fankhauser noted. As of right now, we re not able to hold a vote because the legislation has not been signed, he said.
Kevin DeTray, manager of the Port Bucyrus-Crawford County Airport, updated council members on an improvement project. Earlier this year, the council appropriated funds for . our 5% of the FAA project to be done at the airport, he said. I think the engineering estimate was $1.6 million, and our 5% was $80,000, so that was what was appropriated.
At a meeting in January, Detray explained two improvements were planned this year, the upgrade of a Precision Approach Path Indicator on Runway 4 and construction of a parallel taxiway extension.
But bids for the project came in considerably higher than the engineering estimate, mostly because of changes requested by the Federal Aviation Administration, DeTray said Tuesday. So the FAA announced Monday it had decided to pay the full cost of the project, freeing up that $80,000.
