Kevin DeTray, manager of the Port Bucyrus-Crawford County Airport, updated council members on an improvement project. Earlier this year, the council appropriated funds for . our 5% of the FAA project to be done at the airport, he said. I think the engineering estimate was $1.6 million, and our 5% was $80,000, so that was what was appropriated.
At a meeting in January, Detray explained two improvements were planned this year, the upgrade of a Precision Approach Path Indicator on Runway 4 and construction of a parallel taxiway extension.
But bids for the project came in considerably higher than the engineering estimate, mostly because of changes requested by the Federal Aviation Administration, DeTray said Tuesday. So the FAA announced Monday it had decided to pay the full cost of the project, freeing up that $80,000.
