In addition to having strong academic backgrounds and being leaders in their schools, these students will all be the first generation in their family to attend college. U-46 to recognize the top 2 percent of Class of 2021 graduates

    Posted5/7/2021 8:02 PM Elgin Area School District U-46 will honor the academic success and accomplishments of graduating seniors who rank in the top two percent of their class at 6 p.m. Monday, May 10, inside the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. The ceremony will be live-streamed and archived on the School District U-46 YouTube channel. The 47 students are the top-achieving graduates from the district s five comprehensive high schools, and they are also featured as part of the district s Class of 2021 website section, and through a series of social media posts.   Also Monday, the board of education will recognize Maggie Schroeder, a coordinator with Project Access, the district s homeless education program, which supports nearly 1,000 students annually. Schroeder identifies students in temporary living situations and assists them to enroll, attend, and succeed in school. Courtesy of Cristobal Cavazos   Updated 4/4/2021 9:30 AM A DuPage County group is helping Latino workers heal from the mental trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionately is affecting communities of color. Wheaton-based Immigrant Solidarity DuPage is using $15,000 in state funding to organize peace circles where essential workers employed in DuPage County factories and warehouses can talk with their peers in Spanish about their challenges dealing with COVID-related deaths, poverty and hunger. Participants mostly are from Addison, Glendale Heights and West Chicago.
