Elgin man gets 5½ years for DUI crash that killed passenger Joshua A. Hernandez Updated 3/4/2021 5:44 PM An Elgin man was sentenced to 5½ years in prison Thursday for aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, involving a May 13, 2017, crash that killed his passenger. Kane County Associate Judge Alice Tracy told Joshua Hernandez, 24, that she was not impressed with what he said Wednesday, when his sentencing hearing began.   She said Hernandez spoke about his brain injury, his rehabilitation and how his family thought he might end up a vegetable. What I did not hear from you yesterday was one iota of an apology or remorse to the family or friends of Stephanie Gordon (the woman killed) or Kristin Gray, Tracy said.

U-46 s Accent on Achievement to honor students named All-State Musicians

Posted2/22/2021 11:45 AM Twelve high school students will be recognized by the Elgin Area School District U-46 board Monday with an Accent on Achievement for their outstanding achievements as musicians, including a student whose original musical composition was honored at the state level. Students participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) competitive audition process to be named All-State Musicians, the highest musical achievement for high schoolers in Illinois.   These students are all-star musicians and their participation in this prestigious event reflects their dedication and skills as well as the support of their families and U-46 music educators, said Superintendent Tony Sanders. Parents, teachers and these students have showcased their resilience and innovation as they pivoted to producing and supporting virtual performances and employing new technology in the process.
