Crews in san leandro that destroyed an upholstery shop. Homes along both streets have been evacuated. Kpix5s Andrea Nakano joining us now live from the scene. Reporter firefighters have made Good Progress on the fire in the last half hour. Most of the flames have been put out, but firefighters are on the ladders trying to douse the flames inside this building. The call came in before 8 30 tonight. The fire is centered around this upholstery and Home Furnishing store behind me. The flames quickl
Firefighters initially started an interior fire attack. They were pushed back from the fire that they found in the building. Reporter firefighters tell me there is a home right behind thbuildi here. The residents in that home have been evacuated and also there are two apartments above the business nextdoor. Those residents in those homes have been evacuated as well and firefighters are telling me tonight that no injuries have been reported so far. Reporting live in san leandro, Andrea Nakano, kpix5. It is june in the bay area, conclude a windy place. Wind is often a problem when it comes to a big fire. Not a problem tonight. Im happy to report the wind in and around this fire only between 5 and 7 miles per hour. That is much calmer than normal. As a matter of fact, the wind is completely calm right now in napa and san rafael. The winds are turning more northerly, though. Thats why we were 5 to 7 degrees warmer today. As a matter of fact, the east shore freeway is taking 27 minutes now, almost a half hour to drive from the bridge to the macarthur maze. And then another 15 or so to get onto the bridge. So if youre driving from vallejo to make it to San Francisco, were coming up on almost an hour drive time. This is a look at the san mateo bridge. Its more crowded.
