BHUBANESWAR: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 14 farmers outfits in the state, has started 12-day-long Krushak Adhikar Yatra (March for farmer rights) in Odisha protesting farm laws and showing solidarity to farmers’ movement in New Delhi.
Commemorating the historic Dandi March on March 12, 1930, the farmer leaders started the yatra from Bhubaneswar after paying floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Park here on Friday. They boarded a bus to travel to different districts of the state and sensitize farmers about the harmful effect of the farm laws.
BHUBANESWAR: Farmers in western Odisha have announced to take out a bike rally to Bhubaneswar on March 1 pressing for repeal of three farm laws by the Centre and withdrawal of the free market ordinance of the state government.
Paschim Odisha Krushak Sangathan Samanwaya Samiti (POKSSS) convenor Lingaraj said they have decided to hold this march to show solidarity to farmer movement along with other demands. Around 1000 people will take out the March 1 rally. “We will also take around four tractors with us to carry food and other essentials,” he added.
He said the rally will be held in the state capital for one day. “We want the Centre to repeal the farm laws and stop harassing farmers. The Odisha assembly should pass a resolution against the farm laws like the Punjab government. If the state government is worried for farmers, they should do it immediately,” he added.
