of information that came out of the hearing. we re going to let the evidence drive it forward. i have some concerns about the director and the leaks that he provided. did he do it again? did he do it just this one time? once you do it once, there s always a question, did you do it other times. let me to follow up on what you described as a he said he said. president trump has not testified under oath the way that james comey did. do you want him to go to the hill and testify? i m sure in the process of the investigation the evidence will drive this forward and how that occurs is up to the folks involved in the investigation. but at the end of the day what you ve got to look at is what was testified to yesterday. comey made it clear. the president didn t obstruct justice in any way in my. and we need to move past this in regards of working for the american people and get to work on tax reform and other issues. let me nail you down on that one. i understand you say it s up to the f
where we ve been talking to folks out there. reporter: right now we re in maricopa county. and this is the county that gave president trump the largest number of votes. for the most part people have been overwhelmed by the coverage. after the election they ve been trying to tune things out. too much finger pointing, not enough facts. but there is still a tremendous amount of trump sumt here in maricopa county and trump supporters don t see anything wrong with the president asking for loyalty from the fbi director. they also don t think that russia is a particular threat. they think that the president s office should be respected and there are also comey supporters out here and those comey supporters say that they belief what comey said yesterday. he was extremely credible and they take his word over the president s. take a listen. you kind of want to know more details about what really will be spoken about behind closed doors. it opened my eyes to what
this investigation, the comey stuff, that makes it that much tougher. i had a republican texting me from the hill, watching the comey hill saying i think our agenda is as good as dead. that s significant. when the history of the trump administration is written, i think the story of how infrastructure was moved to year two or kicked beyond the beginning is going to be one of the major themes. it s a real lost opportunity for the president i think. you re probably hearing some of the action behind us. the president is getting ready to head over to the department of transportation to make these remarks. we re going to have those for you next hour. after the break we re turning back to james comey s testimony. president trump claiming total and complete vindication but also calling essentially his team the former fbi director a liar. what do voters think of james comey and who do they believe? we re going to hear from some of them next. and one unfortunate ride on the gravitron, your
though i m not sure that s really been the subject of conversation. what s your take on that, eli? it depends on what we re talking about. depending the president said, if there were other people, not myself, meddling with russia, yeah, i want to know that. that gives him a little credibility, saying he wasn t trying to squash the russia probe. but comey made it plain, as it reta pertained to mike flynn, the president put his hand on his shoulder, so to speak, and said, it d be nice if you could do this. comey said, i took it as a direction. when it comes to mike flynn, why is the president so loyal to him? i have been trying to understand the things this president does and speculate why he does what he does. it is a fruitless exercise, trying to get inside his mind. but i think he strangely is loyal to certain people, and then disloyal to others. he s very quick to throw other members of his team under the bus. jeff sessions is a great example. he was the first member of the s
where this is headed politically, at least for the republicans. they re singing from the same sheet of music here. the administration has been focused on leaks for a long time and after yesterday comey, legally he s on firm ground as 0 private citizen leaking unclassified information. but politically by acknowledging that so openly, he did give republicans something to grasp on to. and you can see that s what they re hanging on to. as pete said earlier, the formal complaint filed today, i mean that is all about the optics and the headlines and furthering the perception that they want people to believe that comey did something in leaking to the press which is sort of standard within a democracy. the press needs leaks of information. it s not classified or anything illegal but they want the public it s for the public good. to believe that comey was up to something nefarious. one of the things that i found so striking yesterday is that if you re republican, there were plenty i
