Six days after beginning fall practice, the Kansas baseball team took the field for the first time under new head coach Dan Fitzgerald. On Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark, KU played a 14-inning exhibition game against Nebraska in front of an estimated crowd of 500 people.

On a night created to honor Buck O’Neil, the Kansas Jayhawks won a 7-6 thriller over the Texas Southern Tigers at Legends Field in the inaugural Buck O'Neil Classic. Sophomore shortstop Maui Ahuna drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly.
