Local COVID-19 cases remain concerning; vaccine is coming

SWEETWATER COUNTY — Sweetwater County public health officials and county leaders met through Zoom on Monday, Dec. 14, for an update on COVID-19 in Sweetwater County. During the meeting, Sweetwater County’s County Health Officer Jean Stachon and several other other local doctors and health care providers gave updates on expectations for a COVID-19 vaccine in Sweetwater County and the county’s coronavirus statistics. COVID-19 IN SWEETWATER COUNTY While there has been a downward trend of COVID-19 cases across Wyoming, and a slight downward trend in Sweetwater County as well, Dr. Stachon noted that local numbers are still high. According to the ranking as of Monday, Sweetwater County was second highest out of Wyoming’s 23 counties for COVID cases.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations Down to 184 in Wyoming

CHEYENNE Wyoming’s COVID-19 Coronavirus hospitalizations and active cases both decreased over the weekend, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). The latest data from the WDH’s hospitalization report is from December 12, and the number of COVID-19 patients in Wyoming hospitals reported at that time was 184. This is the lowest it’s been since November 11 when there was 183 hospitalizations. One week ago on December 7, hospitalizations were at 207, and the highest number recorded in Wyoming was 247 on November 30. Advertisement - Story continues below. Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has the most hospitalizations with 44 patients, followed by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with 43 patients. Wyoming Medical Center has 13 out of 20 available Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, while Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has 16 out of 15 beds available.
