The auditor-general has found that an Eastern Cape government contract to manage the reputation of the office of the premier (OTP) during former premier Phumulo Masualle’s tenure was irregularly awarded. This has resulted in disciplinary hearings being conducted against former and current senior managers in the office, who were recently hauled in to answer about their involvement.

UDM leader Bantu Holomisa wants both provincial and national governments to intervene to help residents of the New Rest community in Lusikisiki whose homes were demolished by the Ingquza Hill municipality in 2016. The municipality at the time demolished 37 homes, claiming they had been built on its land.
