UDM leader Bantu Holomisa wants both provincial and national governments to intervene to help residents of the New Rest community in Lusikisiki whose homes were demolished by the Ingquza Hill municipality in 2016. The municipality at the time demolished 37 homes, claiming they had been built on its land.
The ANC has deployed Ntandokazi Capa as the first ever woman mayor for the troubled Ingquza Hill municipality. Capa is the daughter of recently appointed deputy minister of agriculture, rural development & land reform Zoleka Capa. Zoleka Capa held a number of roles in the province including a controversial stint as OR Tambo district mayor before heading to parliament.
