High school sweethearts Jim and Dorothy Tice to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Married at Grace U.P. Church in East Liverpool in 1956, the former Dorothy Mae Stoakes, daughter of the late Ruth and John Stoakes, became the bride of James R. Tice, the son of the late Bea and Bob Tice on March 10th, 1956. George Parfitt was best man and Barbara Richardson Noonan served as maid of honor.
The Tice’s are lifelong residents of East Liverpool. Jim retired from Crucible Steel in 1983 and Columbiana County Health Center in 1999. He most recently worked at Alpha Care. Dorothy worked at City Hospital, also retiring in 1999.

Mary Lou Ballantyne Smith, most recently of Selbyville, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, just a few hours after her 92nd birthday. Born at the family home in Poolesville, Md., in 1929, she was the daughter of Robert and Louise (Kohlhoss) Ballantyne. She spent her high school years at Immaculata Preparatory School in Washington, D.C.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her loving parents; her husband of 46 years, Ralph; sisters Ruth Thompson and Dottye Moore; brothers William Ballantyne and Robert Ballantyne; son-in-law Harry Stoddard; and great-granddaughter Hope Barber. She is survived by her children: Jo Ann Stoddard of Midlothian, Va., Terri Kennedy of Ocean View, Lorraine Chase (Melvin) of Hyattsville, Md., Rob (Liz) of Severna Park, Md., Larry (Kathy) of Lewes, and Kevin (Carrie) of Greenbelt, Md. She is also survived by a brother, Harry Ballantyne; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews too numerous to count. All of these c

don t have any credits to show for it, am i still marketable? frankly, the credits matter more. you can always go to the library. people learn things throughout their lives but you need proof of that knowledge in order to access certain kinds of jobs. i think it s a great thing with the university of virginia and duke and stanford and princeton and all these colleges are doing to put these free clas out there in the long run, i think we need to find a way so that the people who take those classes and succeed in them can then find some way of demonstrating their none in a way that is acceptable to employers and other colleges. yeah, i mean with all due respect to kevin, my life, i ve seen the exact opposite. i got through three years of college and said i m out of here and pursued my own study of knowledge over the next few years. then i got into graduate school. it has always been the knowledge that mattered much more than the credits. thank god i went into media
