The petitioner, representing Punjamon Illam, a traditional Brahmin household in Kerala argued that the negative portrayal of a character in the film could potentially harm the family's reputation.
A plea has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking a re-investigation of the Vandiperiyar rape and murder case, in which a girl who was around 5-6 years old was raped and murdered in Vandiperiyar, Idukki.
The Court observed that legal precedents, international human rights schemes and legislations make it clear that the right of an individual to decent and dignified burial remains inviolable and beyond question.
The Court said that allowing such behavior would encourage unauthorized wealth creation and illegal gains, which goes against the public interest for which Akshaya centres are established.
