KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Tuesday, the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners voted in favor of approving the allocation of funds to the YWCA of Kalamazoo for use in reproductive health services. According to county documents, the grant comes in the form of $43,900, which will not extend past the date of 12/31/21. The funding was originally going to be paid out to Southwest Michigan First, but that funding was ultimately withheld from the organization due to controversy over the hire of former Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield as the new CEO.

Kalamazoo County community invited to participate in virtual housing forum

Kalamazoo County sign (Photo by John McNeil) KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Tuesday, Kalamazoo County Commissioners announced that the public is invited to participate in a virtual housing forum. Officials say the forum would be used to discuss the “Homes for All” millage, which was approved by voters last November. That millage, which is .75 mills for eight years, would help raise about $6.3 million dollars in the first year and about $50 million over the eight year life of the millage. This virtual forum will take place on Tuesday, February 23 at 4 p.m. over Zoom. “The number of people and families experiencing homelessness in Kalamazoo has grown exponentially since 2019, and this challenge has been exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Kalamazoo County Board Chair Tracy Hall said. “We are committed to finding innovative solutions that create long-term housing and wrap-around services to help Kalamazoo’s unhoused population get the care the
