KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) The Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners and Administrator Tracie Moored tonight responded to discussions surrounding the county’s efforts to help residents experiencing homelessness. During a virtual meeting, Commissioners discussed the matter at length about ongoing efforts to curb homelessness in the community. Board members said there had been much correspondence from community members on the subject. Kalamazoo County Board Chair Tracy Hall said that one of those efforts made was an attempt to purchase the former Lakeside Academy building, but the purchase had ultimately gone to a different bidder.

Kalamazoo County community invited to participate in virtual housing forum

Officials say the forum would be used to discuss the “Homes for All” millage, which was approved by voters last November. That millage, which is .75 mills for eight years, would help raise about $6.3 million dollars in the first year and about $50 million over the eight year life of the millage. KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Tuesday, the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners reviewed its priorities for the year 2021. According to officials, the county board’s agenda includes increasing housing options, keeping the Justice Facility project on track, and strengthening Kalamazoo County Governments diversity and inclusion policies. “Our residents come first, which is why we listen to their feedback and engage with the community so we can ensure Kalamazoo County Government is providing quality and consistent programs and services,” Kalamazoo County Board Chair Tracy Hall said in a statement. “Voters made it clear they support the county helping residents obtain permanent, affordable housing, which is why we are committed to creating solutions.”
