The Clear Lake girls basketball team continued its recent hot streak with a 48-39 win over Roland-Story on Thursday night.Â
Three Lions players finished with double-digit scoring totals, led by senior Kaitlyn VanderPloeg with 14 points. Juniors Emily Theiss and Jaden Ainley had respective totals of 12 and 11 points.Â
With the win, No. 3 Clear Lake improved to 14-1 on the season, and has won six consecutive games.Â
The Lions will play Friday at Hampton-Dumont-CAL.Â
Girls Basketball
Algona 53, Hampton-Dumont-CAL 26: The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls lost to Algona on Thursday night, 53-26, to fall to 5-11 on the season and 3-6 in conference play.Â
The Bulldogs will host Clear Lake on Friday night.Â
Going into Saturday s game between Mason City and No. 5 Cedar Falls, it would ve been easy to dismiss the Mohawks chances. Going up against the Tigers, ranked No. 5 in Class 5A, the winless Mohawks didn t seem to have much of a chance.Â
But thanks to some big offensive performances, Mason City nearly pulled off one of the year s most stunning upsets. In the end Cedar Falls won, 71-69, but the Mohawks walked away with their heads held high.Â
Junior Jada Williams scored 24 points on Saturday, with 10 rebounds. It was the second time in two days that Williams had double-digit points and rebounds, after she put up a triple double on Friday against Ames.Â
