Noted development economist Dr Jean Dreze has strongly advocated an urban employment guarantee scheme as part of efforts to address the twin problems of poverty, particularly during exigencies like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and gender inequality through governments programmes and policies.
The suggestion was made by Dreze at a three-day International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE II 2021), organised by the Gender Park under Kerala governments Department of Women and Child Development in association with UN Women on Thursday.

1,000 government institutions in seven districts will be provided connectivity
The first phase of the K-FON project to provide high speed Internet connection will be inaugurated online by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on February 15.
As many as 1,000 government institutions in seven districts will be provided connectivity in the first phase. Government institutions and offices in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad will benefit from this. Optical fibre cables have been laid along 7,200 km across the State.
