The Supreme Court Wednesday granted bail to A G Perarivalan who has been serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, taking note of his long incarceration of over 30 years and no history of complaint when out on parole.

In a significant development in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, on Thursday, left the decision regarding the release of convict Perarivalan to President Ram Nath Kovind
The Governor’s decision was conveyed by the Centre to the Supreme Court hearing Perarivalan’s plea challenging the August 2018 judgment sentencing him to life. The Centre s affidavit was filed by Mohammad Nasim Khan, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
