The Supreme Court has done justice to the seven people, including Nalini Sriharan, convicted of their alleged involvement in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination in Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991.
The order to disband the agency was issued in May and the pending investigation has been handed over to a different unit of the CBI, the officials said.
“The state Cabinet had taken its decision based on relevant considerations. In exercise of Article 142, it is appropriate to release the convict,” the Bench said.
The Supreme Court Wednesday granted bail to A G Perarivalan who has been serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, taking note of his long incarceration of over 30 years and no history of complaint when out on parole.
