It would latch onto deer and horses as well, and then it would release this protozoan into the bloodstream of the cattle. In the south, the long horns and the cherokee cattle both developed immunities to this tick. The mothers milk gave those calves enough immunity where they could survive. They would be they would be touched by this disease, but they would survive it and grow into adulthood.
