The Detroit Tigers dropped a pair of games to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday evening: a close 3-1 loss in Game 1, but a blowout, 11-0, in Game 2. A rainout on Wednesday necessitated a pair of seven-inning contests on Thursday, a decidedly nicer day and evening, weather-wise. The somewhat unusual start time (4:10 pm CDT) made for some strange shadows at the start of the twin-bill.
Game 1: White Sox 3, Tigers 1
Carlos Rodón came into Game 1 with a 0.47 ERA, a 3-0 record, a sparkling 0.684 WHIP, and a no-hitter in his three starts so you just know he was champing at the bit to face the light-hitting Tigers lineup. Now, I know a few of you you are wondering, “Wait, Rodón? Wasn’t he a relief pitcher the Tigers had a couple of years ago?” Well, no, that’s another guy, Bruce Rondón. Hope this helps.

MILWAUKEE Travis Shaw hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning off Trevor Bauer, Eric Lauer won in his first start of the season and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 on Thursday night.
It was the first meeting of the two teams since the first round of last year s NL playoffs, a two-game sweep by the World Series champion Dodgers.

MILWAUKEE Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, the pride of Auburndale, Wis. and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, who made a pair of All-Star teams with the Nationals, twice garnered National League Cy Young Award votes and once led the NL in wins before struggling to shoulder the expectations of a $100 million contract with Detroit, decided to retire from professional baseball this week.
It might have been the shortest retirement in history.
“I think I was retired for about two hours,” Zimmermann said.
In a turnaround straight out of a movie script, Zimmermann is continuing his professional career with the team he cheered for as a boy. He told the story of this dramatic turn of events on Friday, a day after the Brewers called Zimmermann to the big leagues and put him on the cusp of becoming the 11th Wisconsin native to wear the uniform in a regular-season game.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Jose Urena wouldn t let his team s five errors rattle him. Chicago White Sox starter Lucas Giolito, an expected American League Cy Young candidate, was dealing on the other end, but that didn t shake Urena s presence.
He chose to block out the uncontrollable. His mental toughness stood out, manager AJ Hinch said Tuesday. He never let the errors behind him, some of the nonplays get to him. He just hung in there and would make a better pitch, and then we would turn the double play. You looked up, and we were hanging in there.
Urena, signed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract this winter, responded to the defensive miscues by inducing four double plays and a career-high 15 ground-ball outs. The 29-year-old gave up seven hits and three walks but held the White Sox in check through seven innings. Of his two runs allowed, only one was earned.
Brewers Place Brett Anderson, Josh Lindblom On 10-Day IL
Brett Anderson (strained right hamstring) and right-hander
Josh Lindblom (right knee effusion) have been on the 10-day injured list. Right-hander
Corey Ray were called up from the alternate training site to fill the spots on the active roster, and Ray is now in line to make his Major League debut.
Anderson threw only 11 pitches Friday before being removed from his start against the Cubs, resulting in an unexpected bullpen game for Milwaukee and a 15-2 loss. Lindblom was the next pitcher in to replace Anderson, and the two hurlers combined to allow 11 earned runs over four innings of work.
